The Engine That Purred

Sandro Ravazzon works in a garage as a car mechanic. One morning, he opened the hood of a car and got a big surprise. A cat was sitting on the engine! “I jumped when I opened the hood,” he said. “Sometimes you see rats or birds in a car. When they get into the engine, they die. This cat was lucky. I think it was too scared to move. That’s why it’s still alive.”

The cat was in a 1995 Volkswagen Jetta. The owner of the Jetta had a long drive to get to the garage, so-everyone was very surprised that the cat was alive. Sandro called the owner of the car. The car owner was very surprised to hear about the cat. “I don’t even have a cat,” he said.

No one knew where the cat came from, but the car owner had an idea. “Maybe it’s my neighbor’s cat. But it’s funny that I didn’t hear anything. The cat didn’t even meow!”

Everyone in the garage liked the cat. They named her Jetta. “She’s cute and friendly,” they said. They gave her some milk, and someone went out to buy cat food. Then the car owner came and took the cat home. He knocked on all the doors in the neighborhood. Finally he found the woman who had lost the cat. She was very happy to see her cat. “I was so worried because my cat was missing,” she said. “Thank you for finding her!” The cat just purred.
