JacksonFive's
Free Weekly "Learning English" Newsletter
Issue:
08 "Breakfast
Items" April 9, 2000
=====================================================
Dear Readers,
We've had lots of interesting replies to the
"learning as a family"
question asked by me last week. I think it
was a question that got
many people thinking.
During the discussion with some of the readers that
emailed me, I
thought of another interesting question.
"What do you do with your
copy of JacksonFive newsletter after you receive
it?" Do you leave
it in your email box, print it out, or what do you
do with it after
you receive it?
I would like to hear from you on this. There
is no right or wrong
answer so don't be shy. Please give me your
replies and if I get
enough, I might post the results in next week's
issue.

THIS WEEK's FEATURED QUESTION:
"Yummy breakfast foods you can order."
ANSWER:
For this lesson, please reference "Perkins
Restaurant" website,
http://www.perkinsrestaurants.com/
and "click Menu bar".
For easy learning, you probably want to printout this
newsletter
lesson and open the Perkin's menu (above) in your
browser.
1) Muffins: typical North American breakfast bakery item.
Muffins
are round and wrapped in paper at the bottom (don't
eat, remove
first) and comes in many different sweet
flavors. You can see
a muffin near the top-left corner of the
"Traditional Favorites"
picture on the Perkin's menu.
2) Hashed Browns: thin strips of potato fried in oil. One of my
personal favorites, but probably not too good for
you if you are
worried about "cholesterol". You
can see a picture of hashed
browns near the right side of the "Traditional
Favorites" picture.
3) Eggs Benedict: A specially cooked egg that still has its
"egg yolk" in one piece (the yellow part
of the egg). There is a
picture of two eggs benedict near the lower corner
of the
"Traditional Favorites" picture.
They are sitting on the bread.
4) Omelets: one of my own yummy favorites! Omelets are eggs
mixed
with different vegetables, meats, and cheese.
Please note the
"Premium Omelets" picture in the Perkin's
menu. The omelet in the
picture is also sitting on hashed browns. I
usually eat lots of
omelets with hashed browns for breakfast when I'm
in North America.
5) Pancakes and Maple Syrup: Pancakes are make from pancake powder
mixed with water and cooked in a pan. Pancake
without maple syrup
is very tasteless and not very good tasting.
Maple syrup is also
called "syrup" and comes from maple
trees. It is sweat and adds
flavor to pancakes, waffles and other items.
You can see a good
picture of pancakes with maple syrup and butter on
top in the
"Pancakes Plus" picture at the Perkin's
website.
6) Waffles: a little bit like pancake, but has square indents (holes).
Also eaten with syrup. You can see waffle
items in the Perkin's
menu, but no pictures.
7) French Toast: toast that is coated with "egg white"
(clear part of
the egg) than cooked in a pan. It develops an
attractive golden
coating. You can see a listing of it in the
"Pancakes Plus"
section of the Perkin's menu.
