JacksonFive's
Free Weekly "Learning English" Newsletter
         Issue: 11       "Moving Day"     April 30, 2000
=====================================================

Dear Readers,

I can hear it raining "cats and dogs" (def: raining very heavily)
outside while I'm writing this issue.  I'm sure for many of you it
has been a wet weekend as well.  Below, you'll read more about what
I have been doing this weekend.

I would like to thank all the many readers who have sent
congratulations to me for winning the Toastmasters International
Speech Competition last Saturday.  It was "overwhelming" (def: a
lot more than I expected).  Sometimes, I forget how many news
friends I have made through writing this newsletter.

It is very interesting that we have so many "fellow members" in
the "JacksonFive family".  Just a few days ago, we had another
"first".  A new reader wrote me and told me that she told her
colleagues at work about our newsletter.  Unexpectedly, one of her
colleagues told her that she was a member already.  Wow!  Isn't
that amazing (both for her and our newsletter)?  If you have
amazing stories (def: unusual, special stories) of your own, please
    share them with me.

THIS WEEK's FEATURED TOPIC:

    "Moving Day!"

ANSWER:

    - - This is a true story! - -
Moving day is here!  I'm moving to my new residence (def: home)
in Taichung.  I'm moving from one part of Taichung to another.
I'm moving from near the Howard Hotel to near the BBK Bowling
    Alley.

What do you dislike about moving?  Personally, I dislike all the
"packing and unpacking".  Some people pack very fast, while others
pack very slowly.  I'm the latter ^_^ (def: second or last type).
I like to look at everything I pack first before putting it in the
box.  What's worst, I tend to recall memories of the object and
stop to reminisce (verb, def: recall the past).  What type of
person are you, the first type or second?

The weather didn't cooperate very much either.  It was raining
"on-and-off" (def: starts and stops, starts and stops,...) all day.

I must admit though that it is very nice here.  I'm sitting in my
new home at this moment, typing this newsletter on my computer,
and using my new 19" monitor (old monitor "called it quits" (def:
    died) after the move).

My new home is big.  I'm sure we can have "JacksonFive parties"
here in the future.  Wouldn't that be a bang (slang for fun)?  I
would love to meet my loyal readers.  I'm sure you can find my new
home easily because it has a big sign downstairs, "JacksonFive
    English School".  ^_^

Note that "Moving Day" doesn't just mean JacksonFive's physical
home is moving, but also its virtual home.  Because our
"JacksonFive family" has grown so fast, I have "taken the plunge"
(idiom: take risk or invest, also used to mean getting married)
and rented a new domain, http://www.path2english.com for our
"exclusive" use (def: just for one person or one purpose).  My new
email address is jacksonfive@path2english.com.  For the more
"perceptive" (def: careful or observant) readers, you probably
noticed the virtual move coming.  The old URL and email address
will still work for now, but please update your records ASAP
    (As Soon As Possible).

If you have a "moving story" of your own, please share it with us
(story about moving or moving story, either is OK ^_^ ).  It would
be a good chance for you to try my new email,
mailto:jacksonfive@path2english.com.  Who will be the first to
    email me at this address?

Sorry, I have to go.  The professors of the English department at
"Normal Changhua University of Education" asked me to visit their
students tomorrow morning and teach them about "Learning English
after graduation".  I haven't written my material yet ;-(
    Any suggestions?

NEXT WEEK's FEATURED TOPIC:

  "Who is JacksonFive?"
Some of our newer family members don't seem very familiar with me.
I thought this would be a good topic for them and for you.  If I
have time, I'll also share my philosophy for learning / teaching
    English.

A friend of mine just emailed me a good article.  This gave me an
idea.  I think I'll start a new "share" section on our website,
    http://www.path2english.com/Share/Share.htm.  I'll put good English
"shares" I find in this new section.  If you have any good English
jokes, articles, or anything you want to share, you can email them
    to me.

(If you benefited from this newsletter, please share it with a friend.)
