JacksonFive's
Free Weekly "Learning English" Newsletter
Issue: 22       "Doctor, I have..."      July 16, 2000
=====================================================

Dear Readers,

Our "soymilk" reader, Ellen from St. Louis would like to thank all
our members for sending her so many good advice about her grocery
problem. I also like to thank Ellen for sharing with us her
experience and everyone else for helping her. That is the
    JacksonFive spirit! Way to go!

As our family is growing very fast, I'm starting to look for
better ways to manage the "logistics" of our newsletter (def:
details of operation). This way, I can concentrate on the creation
of our newsletter rather than the logistics. For example, I'm
sending our newsletters right now manually and it is a lot of work.
When our family was small, it isn't a big deal. Now with our
family so huge, it is a lot of work! If you know of any good
software that I can use to easily automate the sending/logistics
of our newsletter, please let me know.

Did you know I key-in each of your names personally ("personal
touch")? On an average day, I key 35-40 new members into the list,
but today we've set a new record. One hundred new members
    registered today!

I like to say hello to our new USI members. "Hello and welcome to
our JacksonFive family!" You didn't think I would notice you guys
didn't you? Because of "personal touch", I noticed there were a
few USI readers coming into our list a while back. This week
though, these original readers must have told their colleagues
about our JacksonFive family. The result being we've added 70-100
new readers from USI alone during Thursday and Friday alone. It
    was impressive!

For those curious about who these USI members are and where they
work, you can visit their company website http://www.usi.com.tw/.
It is really a small world you know. About 4 years ago, I taught
an USI engineers English in Taichung ^_^ Would our new USI members
please tell us how knowledge of our newsletter spread in their
organization? Who was the first reader at USI?

Talking about a small world, did you remember the story I shared
with you before about another fellow member? A while back, there
was a member who said, "JacksonFive, I really enjoy reading your
newsletter, and I wanted to share it with my colleagues at work.
However, you know what, one colleague told me she was already a
JacksonFive member." What are the odds of something like that
happening? There are JacksonFive family members everywhere! ^_^
Do you have any similar funny stories to share with us about your
experience with our newsletter? I would love to hear from you if
    you have.

THIS WEEK's FEATURED TOPIC:

    "Doctor, I have..."

ANSWER:

One of our members suggested this excellent topic. She was
curious to know how to communicate with a foreign doctor about
"discomforts" and their associated symptoms. As many people will
go abroad for vacation, this is a very practical topic.

A Fever: when your body temperature is too high.
A Headache: aches or pains of the head
  A Stomachache
  An Earache
  A Toothache
  A Cough
A Sore Throat: pain in the throat, usually from infection caused by
                        a cold.
A Runny Nose: fluid coming from your nose ^_^
A Cold: all the above could be symptoms of a cold.
