Dear Readers,

Another interesting week at JacksonFive central! We had workers
at the school all weekend. People to tear down walls. People to
put up walls. People to paint and people to install. The school
is growing and the next stage of renovation was needed.

I planned this next stage even before the school was opened, but
it was completed even better than I expected. To be honest, I'm
most excited by the new "creative" touches. We added one big
window and two smaller windows to our office wall that looks just
like a big robot face with mustaches. Can you imagine this? The
small windows on top also have fans installed that look exactly
like a couple of cute eyelashes (i.e. blinds on the fans). With
our students' help, I also attached "glow-in-the-dark" stars to
the library walls. They were so happy when I turned off the
lights and they glowed. They kept jumping up and down and
shouting "beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!" I'm so happy to see
the excitement on their little faces. This is what rewarding
teaching is all about. Happy learning for them and a rewarding
    teaching experience for us.

By the way, I've added some new Summer Camp pictures to our
website. You can find them here,
    http://www.jacksonfive.com.tw/SummerCamp/SummerCamp.htm.
You might be interested to see our Summer Camp teacher, Jim,
with his happy students. These were our first group of students
at the school. Can you believe that most of them didn't speak
one word of English just three months ago? If you see them now
talking to us in class and during play, you wouldn't believe it.

Actually, I'm most pleasantly surprised myself. I knew I wanted
to create an extra special school, but since I never ran a school
before, I wasn't 100% certain of its immediate effectiveness.
Let's just say that ALL our students who never spoke one word of
English before start speaking simple English naturally in less
than a month. As well, no student has left and many actually
start crying when their parents ask them if they wanted to stop
coming to our school. You know how parents are ^_^ Always trying
to scare their children with "small white lies (jokes)".

Sorry to "run on" with my excitement. Teaching is my passion, and
I tend to talk about my students too much. One of the new staff
members at my school mentioned an interesting observation to me
over lunch. She said at the previous English school she worked at,
teachers would talk about "personal investments" over lunch,
but at our school we would talk about "our students" all the time.
Well... why not, we are excited to have the opportunity and honor
to educate them. I'm even looking forward to many of them being
my friends for life. I wouldn't even mind if they gave me a "red
bomb" many years from now. It would my greatest honor to be
invited. It shows that I have made a positive "difference" in
their lives. Don't you think so? Do you feel this way about
anything in your life? What positive difference have you made in
    other people's lives?

I'm sure you will enjoy reading the following essay about 921. The
original essay question was "Is the 921 earthquake a blessing or
disaster?" The author wrote this essay using all the important
  steps I mentioned in issue 28, "What's in a paper (part 1)".
