JacksonFive's
Free Weekly "Learning English" Newsletter
Issue: 34        "Number Worries?"        Nov 19, 2000
=====================================================

Dear Reader,

Gauging by the "mood" of my adult students, it seems many people
are worried about the future. Whether you are pessimistic or
optimistic about the future, don't worry. I have written this
    issue to help you.

I call it my JacksonFive "3 Step Dance to Happiness". The 3
    important steps are as follows:
Step 1: "Count Your Blessings", click here
      http://www.path2english.com/Share/Blessed.htm
Step 2: "Have Some Fun", click here
      http://www.path2english.com/Share/Illusions.htm
Step 3: "Remember Your Priorities", click here
      http://www.path2english.com/Share/$20time.htm
Aren't you happier now? You can always return to this area to
learn "new steps" if you need another "recharge". Remember,
    "I'm always here for you!"

Writing this newsletter is my own way of focusing on what is
important to me: the sharing of knowledge and ideas with people
who need it. This makes me feel very happy indeed! By helping
you, I feel I'm doing my small share to improve this World, this
World that has given me so much. I feel blessed that I don't go
hungry. I feel blessed that I'm well education. I feel blessed
and grateful that I have this newsletter. Why am I telling you
all this? Remember, you are no less blessed than me and should
be very thankful. Count your blessings ^_^

Last week, I wrote about "finding your own personal path to
English". Over the past, many of you have asked me about how to
learn English. To give you some directions, I have just finished
    writing this, JacksonFive DIY English,
http://path2english.com/Tips.htm. I hope you find it helpful and
please feel free to add to this list of tips. Remember, you can
also help make our newsletter better by sharing. This newsletter
    belongs to all of you.

Do you know what the best investment with the highest return in
the World? I read somewhere once that it is "investing in
yourself". When you are troubled by "numbers", remember where
    your best returns are.

"May you reap great rewards by reading this newsletter."

THIS WEEK's FEATURED TOPIC:

    "Number Worries?"

ARTICLE:

You might think I was going to talk to you about the stock market or
your financial situation. Not at all. I'm just employing a bit of
misdirection to generate some interest from you about this issue ^_^

What I like to teach you are the important "metric prefixes". I'm
surprised sometimes that students don't know what km or kg stands for
(kilometer and kilogram respectively). The metric system is quite
easy actually if you know these simple prefixes below. I have added
G, M, μ, and n of an unit because they are used quite extensively in
  high-tech and computers.

    giga- (G-)               1,000,000,000 1 billion
    mega- (M-)             1,000,000 1 million
    kilo- (k-)                 1,000 1 thousand
    hecto- (h-)              100 1 hundred
deka or deca- (da-)  10 1 ten
    deci- (d-)                1/10 1 tenth
    centi- (c-)               1/100 1 hundredth
    milli- (m-)               1/1,000 1 thousandth
    micro- (μ-)              1/1,000,000 1 millionth
    nano- (n-)               1/1,000,000,000 1 billionth

NEXT WEEK's FEATURED TOPIC:
