Free Weekly "Learning English" Newsletter
Issue: 35        "What is Possible in Taiwan?"        Dec 3, 2000
=====================================================

Dear Reader,

It is getting colder in Taichung, Taiwan. I'm sitting in the
office of the school feeling the chilly breeze creep in from under
the door. I've been taking garlic pills, which my mother sent
from Canada. They seem to offering me an extra layer of
protection from the colds that are going around. Do you do
anything like this to keep the colds away?

Over the last two weeks, I got many emails from our readers about
the last issue. They mentioned they enjoyed reading about my "3
Step Dance to Happiness" (issue 34) very much. Thank you very
much for your feedbacks, and I would also encourage you to read
all my past issues, for which there are many. I'm sure you will find
them very helpful to you and your English. I put a lot of heart and
soul into each of my issues.

Please also remember, if you don't receive my newsletter for many
weeks in a roll, you can goto my website to check if you missed
any issues. If you find, you have missed more than one issue,
please register your information again. Sometimes, email accounts
are temporary not working, which causes my new software to remove
them automatically. Please don't ask me to email you past
newsletters as you can always find them conveniently on our
    website.

THIS WEEK's FEATURED TOPIC:

    "What is Possible in Taiwan?"

ARTICLE:

Before I answer this question, I would like to ask a few questions
  of my own:
  1) Do you believe it is possible for an English school to improve a
      child's personality?
  2) Do you believe a child can learn English just like a mother
      tongue in Asia?
  3) Do you believe an adult can attend an English school for three
months and then be hired by a five star hotel to teach English?

As some of you have been my loyal reader since or before the
beginning of my school (June of this year), you might not be
surprised by my answer. Each of the above and many more learning
"miracles" occur at my school every week.

Why is this? It is because I don't "deviate" from my goal (def: turn
away). I want to create a learning environment just like I had when
I was growing up in the US and Canada. I want a learning environment
that doesn't cut corners. I want a school where I would even be
happy to send my children (if I had any ^_^ ).

You know I was certain my students would enjoy learning English. But
what I wasn't ready for was stories from parents about my students
"nagging" them to bring them to school (def: keep asking). I even
have students coming 30 minutes early because they like being here so
  much.

I really feel happy when students call my name, "Teacher Jackson,"
with emotion. They are truly happy to see me, and I them. Even now,
I'm "reminiscing" Jerry calling my name during English basketball
camp (every Saturday afternoon). Jerry is so cute and such a happy
student ^_^ Hard to imagine something this simple can "make my week"
  (unless you are a parent).

Let me tell you a little secret. It is not easy. It takes a lot of
commitment and personal sacrifice to create anything special from
"scratch" (def: zero, nothing). I'm happy to see that my school has
proved "it is possible in Taiwan".

P.S. I'm also happy to mention that we have more than 6,000 members
in our JacksonFive family now. Our members exist in almost every
country in the World. We stretch from Singapore to Japan, from China
to Italy, from Canada to the US, and from your home to mine. It is
  possible in Taiwan!
