Response
to Question:
"Did your life or your business change
because of
SARS? Please share with us your special
experiences, thoughts, and feelings."Dear
JacksonFive:
Do you remember me?I'm Mandy.I consider myself a true Jacksonfive
reader.
I love to read anything about English. That can improve my English
and
learn things from that.I don't know the exact date I found
"Jacksonfive's
Website".Certainly! SARS has really made a big dent in Taiwan and
caused
great damage. It's a wonderful thing that SARS is over. During SARS, we all
had to take temperature and checked if it was normal or not. It
you weren't,
you couldn't enter the company.Every time I heard from News that someone
died..someone was infected by someone..but no one knew who was the
original patient. I was pretty scared. But my mom told me "Don't be that
scared!", If you eat healthy food、have a regular life, you
won't get SARS.
Fortunately, SARS is over..>^0^<It's really a huge nightmare of Taiwanese
people.
As I know, some foreign teachers don't have certificates telling people they
are qualified .They can teach English just because they're foreigner
speaking
English? If they can do that, I think everyone in Taiwan also can teach
Chinese in any countries that want to learn Chinese. To me, even I
was born
in Taiwan, I can speak good Chinese, but I'm sure I can't teach Chinese.I don't
know how to go about teaching Chinese、how to express
things you want
students to know...something like that.I don't think students can learn lots of
things from unqualified teachers.Especially children, they don't even know
what they have learned from that.
It's really pleased to know you and look forward to getting your e-mail..^_^
Best regards,
Mandy

protecting my housband, he is working in Taipei, and travelling
between Hsinchu and Taipei every working day.
Thanks God, SARS is getting go away Taiwan now.
SARS likes to live the environment under 23 degree.

Dear Lady/Sir,
its really a great result that finally Taiwan has been deleted from the list
of SARS dangerous travel area!
Right now, in Taipei city, it looks like that every citizen is going out of his
house, and swarms into the department stores, movie theaters, travelling
agency, various exhibitions etc. the present city scene is completely
different than the former months, I really enjoy to seeing this.
Anyway, how lucky you are - Taichungnese !
My best regards, Alice Lin

Dear JacksonFive,
Thank you for your email. It's nice to hear from you again.
I've sent you an email when I was in France. But I didn't get any reply from
you since that.
Now I am back in Taiwan, especially the day of my arrived in the airport
was the first day that all the passengers have to fill in one kind of form to
prove that you've never been to China, Singapore, etc in last few weeks. It
was on the 31st of March, and I was feeling fun that lots of cameramen
filmed some passengers who wore the masks.
At that moment, I was not afraid about SARS. But few weeks later, more and
more SARS patients in the hospital, and it seemed that SARS had been out
of control. When I turned on the TV, it was not difficult to find the news about
SARS at all. It was terrible for the people who lived in Taiwan. And it's really
bad for the reputation of Taiwan in the world. The CNN journalist filmed some
bad situations of Taiwan and sent it to all the world. How do the foreigners
think about Taiwan? Certainly, they are afraid, even us, we were afraid of
SARS too. It was a disaster for Taiwn. But I still love my country, even some
parts of medical systems were not good enough to fight this virus. But most
of Taiwanese people cooperated to get over and pass through this bad
period. This kind of esprit is always staying in the deep mind of
Taiwanese
peoples. And now we got the experiences and get stronger and
stronger.
Most of industries suffered from this disaster, it'll be the same in your
school. But I think that this taught will be got over very quickly.
Congratulations that you've found the right teachers for your school finally.
I know that lots of foreigners want to come to Taiwan to be an
English
teacher. But most of them don't have a diploma for being a teacher.
On the other hand, one point is very important. The teacher has to know
how to catch the attention of students and how makes fun with the students.
To learn a language isn't too difficult, the most important is that the
students have the motivations to learn and not learn it for their parents. So
the right teacher is the main reason for motiving the students.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with me and hope to hear from you
again.
Best regards,
Angel

Hello,
Since i am lived at Taipei, it is special caution whenever you hear the
cough or sneeze.
The window on the condition bus has always been opened, because it
would be safe to let fresh air all around the bus. Everyone wear the mask
on the walk side/ office/ bus station ets. Just feel unsafe to walk outside of
house no matter what you could do or wear. The visitors have been refused
to come office and meet with vendor at that time. After announced that
Taiwan has taken off from the list finally, everything is back on the same
method. The sun has still risen up at east, however, the bus window could
be finally closed under such high temperature... I would like to say " no
more SARS forever".....

Hi JacksonFive,
How's it going? It's been a long time for the first time I replied to your
newsletter.
In late March this year, when the press still focused on the war on Iraq, the
fatal disease SARS quietly stepped into Taiwan and created the first battlefield
in a Taipei hospital. No doubt, the SARS rapidly broke out and took the place
of the news about Iraq on newspapers' front-page. The situation was messy
and almost out of hand. A lot of people thought that the shortage of masks
shouldn't have happened. The pig businessmen used the chance to take
advantage of the public. The price of masks rose by 5 or 10 times. Panic
shopping meat that you couldn't get masks even if you had money. It really
went too far. The government hadn't taken any actions in advance and let this
happen. I used to playfully urge my female co-workers that: "Please donate
one of you old bras to people, you will save two innocent lives at the same
time. "It is too huge for you to wear on your face!" they replied with a laugh.
The SARS not only tested the government's work efficiency but also examined
the objectivity in the media and human nature. The press exaggeratedly
reported the influence of the SARS, which misled the public to think that the
virus could surround them anytime anywhere. People were so panicked and
scared that they tried not to get too close to each other in order to prevent
themselves from infection. No hugging, no more shaking hands, the SARS
built a wall between people. Only few people stayed in public places, such
as stations, department stores and hotels. Many economic activities stopped
during these two and a half months.
The SARS deeply impacted our lifestyle and damaged the economy beyond
our imagination. Luckily, the epidemic situation has been brought under
control, but the story hasn't finished yet. Scientists believes the SARS will
be back in the fall and especially warns the people who live in North America
and Europe to be on guard because the disease hasn't really been spread in
those two areas yet. "Just like a flu, SARS will be back to our life every
year." said an expert.
